“Decisions based on emotion aren’t decisions, at all. They’re instincts. Which can be of value. The rational and the irrational complement each other. Individually they’re far less powerful.”
House of Cards, Episode 12, Netflix 2013.
There only two ways you make decisions:
1. Based on the rationale.
2. Based on heuristics & biases.
And there is no one right way of making decisions, independent off course of the results those decisions lead to. And to make decision making more problem-ridden you have the automaticity of some our responses. Responses which have been hard-wired in us humans by nature, which have waded us away from dangers and allowed us to survive up until now. But many of which are incompatible with the modern societies we live in today.
